Biological treatment with monoclonal antibodies

Existing oral prophylactic treatments for frequent episodic and chronic migraine are often ineffective or associated with adverse effects. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a key peripheral and central effector in the pathophysiology of migraine.

Specific blockade of CGRP or its receptor with monoclonal antibodies has been shown to be an effective and safe treatment for migraine. The exact indication criteria for the administration of these antibodies, the required duration of administration and the method of evaluating their effect, especially on patients' quality of life, are currently being established.

Prevention counselling

Counselling and prevention are key to combating headaches. Important advice includes maintaining regular sleep, a balanced diet and adequate water intake. Correct posture and an ergonomic working position help prevent neck and shoulder strain. Effective stress management through relaxation, meditation or exercise reduces the pressure and tension that can trigger headaches.

Limiting alcohol and caffeine consumption is also an important part of prevention if they can be triggers for pain. Regular physical activity improves blood circulation and releases endorphins, which has a positive effect on general well-being and reduces the risk of headaches.

Prevention and counselling can significantly reduce the incidence of headaches and improve quality of life.
